I Love Defining Things

I love doing it in a quest to understand.

Most times there’s no universal definition. Each definition being one made with awareness that it is a trade-off. You become able to see something by hiding something else. Defining is choosing which boxes to use. Knowing that most can’t be used at the same time.

We are not looking for the perfect box—there isn’t one. The process of reflecting why a box is good or bad for our purposes is the point.

Each definition a different perspective, be it only slightly different or almost opposite of another definition’s. Each a different umwelt.

I love challenging existing definitions. They’re all man-made, constructs, and so in a way all false.

Deconstructing one to tear down the foundations of assumptions in which it stands. Creating a new one with either some of those foundations or all fresh ones.

Challenging existing ones is part of the process of making my own definitions. For whatever use they may have.
